Product Description
The AXR series represents a new generation of rib-cooled electric motors engineered for high power density, flexible configuration, and convenient in-service maintenance. Built on decades of motor manufacturing expertise, these machines set a new industry benchmark by delivering significantly more watts per kilogram than conventional rib-cooled designs. This higher power density means that, for any given output, a smaller frame can often be selected — saving valuable floor space and enabling more compact plant layouts.
AXR motors are fully compliant with major international standards, including API 541 and Shell DEP, and can be tailored to meet specific customer requirements. The robust cast-iron frame provides excellent structural rigidity and durability. As standard, the motors are rib-cooled (IC411) with IP55 protection, and optional IC416 cooling with up to IP66 protection is also available. The IP66 rating has been independently verified by a leading testing authority.
The AXR range covers outputs up to 1,800 kW and shaft heights from 315 to 500 mm, with both horizontal and vertical mounting configurations available. The catalogue presents technical data for both 50 Hz and 60 Hz operation, covering synchronous speeds from 500 to 3,600 rpm.

Enclosure and Cooling
Standard Combinations
- IC411 / IP55: The motor is equipped with an external shaft-mounted fan that draws cooling air from the surrounding atmosphere. It is fully protected against dust ingress and water jets.
- IC416 / IP55: Available with a separately driven cooling fan, ideal for low-speed applications and for motors supplied by variable speed drives where self-cooling may be insufficient.
Protection Ratings
- IP55: Some dust may enter but not in quantities sufficient to impair operation; water jets directed at the motor from any angle cause no harmful effect.
- IP66: The enclosure is completely dust-tight; powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) from any direction cause no harmful effect.
Cooling Method (IC411)
- Frame Surface Cooled: The primary coolant circulates in a closed internal circuit, transferring heat through the external surface (plus the stator core and other conductive parts) to the surrounding medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to improve heat transfer.
- Self-Circulation: Coolant movement depends on the main motor's rotational speed — driven either directly by the rotor, by a component mounted on the rotor, or by a fan/pump mechanically coupled to the main motor.
Packaging
Standard export-grade seaworthy packing is used, consisting of plywood or fumigated wooden crates, suitable for long-distance transport by sea or land.
Warranty Period
