1. Product Overview
The HXR 560 rib cooled motors are engineered around a rugged cast-iron frame, forming a totally enclosed, fan-cooled construction. Delivered as standard with IC411 cooling and IP55 ingress protection, these units can also be specified with IC416 cooling and an optional IP66 rating. The HXR family delivers power outputs of up to 2,250 kW and is offered in a 560 mm shaft height, supporting both horizontal and vertical installation. While the catalog data for the HXR range is presented at 50 Hz, the motors are fully capable of operating at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with synchronous speeds spanning from 500 to 3,600 rpm.
2. Mounting Arrangements
Standard mounting configurations for the HXR series:
- IM B3 (IM 1001): Conventional floor mounting with feet facing downward, in a horizontal foot-mounted arrangement.
- IM V1 (IM 3011): Vertical solid-shaft flange mounting, with the flange and free shaft end oriented downward.
3. Enclosure and Cooling
- IC411 / IP55: An external fan mounted on the shaft draws ambient air across the frame for cooling. The enclosure guards the motor against dust ingress and water jets. The operating principle is illustrated in Diagram 27 below.
- IC416 / IP55: A separate auxiliary motor drives the cooling fan, delivering the additional airflow required for low-speed applications, particularly when the motor is powered through a variable speed drive.
- IP55 Protection: Offers dust protection comparable to other dust-protected motors — limited dust may enter but in quantities insufficient to disrupt operation — and shields against water jets projected from any direction without harmful effect.
- IP66 Protection: Available as an upgrade. The enclosure is fully dust-tight and withstands powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) directed from any angle without harmful effect.
- Cooling Method (IC411): The frame surface is cooled via a closed circuit in which the primary coolant circulates within the motor, dissipating heat through the external surface — supplemented by heat transfer through the stator core and other conductive parts — to the surrounding ambient medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to enhance heat dissipation. Self-circulation moves the coolant according to rotor speed, driven either by the rotor itself, a component mounted directly on the main rotor, or a fan/pump unit mechanically driven by the motor.
4. Packaging
Export units are shipped in standard seaworthy packaging, available in plywood or wooden fumigation cases, suitable for long-distance transport by sea or land.
