Overview & Applications
The NMK series slip-ring motors are the ideal solution for industrial applications requiring high starting torque and low starting current. They are specifically engineered for heavy load inertia applications, such as mill drives, or environments with weak network conditions. By minimizing mechanical stress during startup, NMK motors significantly increase the lifespan of your driven equipment while providing maximized availability and high torque across the entire speed range.
These motors are widely utilized in mills, crushers, fans, and conveyors within the mining, cement, and metal industries. Additionally, they offer a reliable and safe solution for pumps in the water industry, as well as pumps, compressors, and mixers in the petrochemical sector.
Technical Scope & Design Features
NMK slip-ring motors are available in shaft heights ranging from 400 mm to 710 mm, with standard cooling and protection combinations of IC611/IP55 and IC81W/IP55. The series is rated for outputs up to 10,000 kW.
The motors feature a robust welded steel frame. The slip ring unit can be supplied with either permanent contact brushes or a brush lifting gear. In both configurations, the slip rings are housed in an enclosure at the non-drive end (N-end), completely separated from the main motor frame. A Liquid Resistance Starter (LRS) is also available upon request.

Mounting Arrangements
The standard mounting arrangement for NMK motors is IMB3 (Code I) and IM1001 (Horizontal foot-mounted). Other mounting options, such as IM1002, are available upon request.
Enclosure and Cooling Systems
Standard combinations for NMK motors are IC611/IP55 and IC81W/IP55. Other cooling methods, including IC616 and IC86W, can be customized.
- IC611 / IP55: Features a fully enclosed air-to-air heat exchanger mounted on the motor. Shaft-mounted fans are fitted both inside the motor frame and slip ring housing, as well as outside the casing, to supply independent internal and external cooling circuits. The motor is fully protected against dust and splashing water from any direction.
- IC81W / IP55: A totally enclosed design featuring machine-mounted and SRU housing-mounted air-to-water heat exchangers. A shaft-mounted fan inside the casing supplies the internal cooling circuit, offering superior protection against dust and splashing water.
- Packaging & Warranty
- Packaging: Standard seaworthy export packaging, utilizing plywood or fumigated wooden crates suitable for long-distance sea or land transportation.
- Warranty: Standard coverage is 12 months after commissioning or 18 months after delivery, whichever comes first. Extended warranty periods are available upon request.
