1. Product Description – Rib cooled motors, type AXR
   This latest generation multi-purpose rib-cooled motor features high power density, flexible configuration and easy maintenance. It is built on decades of electric motor manufacturing experience.
   Setting new industry benchmarks, AXR motors achieve superior watts-per-kilogram performance compared to traditional rib-cooled motors. Thanks to high power density, you can often select one frame size smaller than conventional motors for the same output power. This saves footprint and allows more compact system design.
   AXR motors comply with major industrial standards including API 541 and Shell DEP, plus custom client specifications. The motor adopts a heavy-duty cast iron frame. Standard configuration includes rib cooling IC411 and IP55 protection. IC416 cooling and optional IP66 protection are also offered, with IP66 validated by an independent leading test institute.
   The AXR series covers power output up to 1,800 kW with shaft heights from 315 mm to 500 mm. Both horizontal and vertical mounting are supported. This catalogue provides technical data at 50 Hz and 60 Hz, for synchronous speeds ranging from 500 rpm to 3600 rpm.
2. Mounting arrangements
   Standard mounting options for AXR motors:

• Code I: IM B3, Code II: IM 1001. Standard floor mounting, feet downwards (horizontal foot-mounted).
• Code I: IM V1, Code II: IM 4011. Flange mounted with free shaft end pointing downwards (vertical solid shaft).
• Code I: IM B35, Code II: IM 2001. Foot-and-flange horizontal mounting. Flange integrated on end-shield, single cylindrical shaft extension, feet downwards.

1. Enclosure and cooling
   Standard combinations
   IC411 / IP55: AXR motors are fitted with an external shaft-driven fan that uses ambient air for cooling. The enclosure protects against dust and water jets. The working principle can be seen in the corresponding diagram.
   IC416 / IP55: AXR motors can be supplied with IC416 cooling. A separate auxiliary motor drives the cooling fan to deliver sufficient cooling at low speeds, especially when powered via variable speed drives.

Protection rating IP55

• Dust protection: Dust may enter in small amounts, but not enough to impair motor operation.
• Water jet protection: Water sprayed from nozzles in any direction will not cause damage.

Protection rating IP66
AXR motors can be upgraded to IP66 enclosure:

• Dust protection: The housing is fully dust-tight.
• Water jet protection: Powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) from any direction have no harmful effect.

Cooling method IC411

• Frame surface cooled: Primary coolant circulates inside the motor in a closed loop and dissipates heat through the outer frame surface (along with heat transfer via stator core and conductive components) to ambient air. The surface can be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to enhance heat exchange.
• Self circulation: Coolant flow relies on the rotation of the main motor. It can be driven directly by the rotor, a rotor-mounted component, or a fan/pump mechanically coupled to the main motor shaft.
