1. General Overview
The AXR series represents a new generation of versatile rib-cooled induction motors engineered to deliver outstanding power density, flexible configuration, and straightforward maintenance. Building on decades of electric-motor manufacturing experience, the AXR platform redefines the industry benchmark by delivering a higher watt-per-kilogram ratio than conventional rib-cooled machines have ever reached. This exceptional power density often lets a single output be achieved with a frame one size smaller than standard alternatives, translating into meaningful space savings and more compact plant layouts. Fully aligned with leading industrial standards—including API 541 and Shell DEP—as well as custom end-user specifications, AXR motors are built around a rugged cast-iron frame and ship with IC411 cooling and IP55 protection as standard. For applications that demand more, an IC416 cooling option and IP66 enclosure upgrade are available; the IP66 rating has been independently verified by a leading testing body. Covering outputs up to 1,800 kW with shaft heights from 315 to 500 mm, these motors support both horizontal and vertical mounting. Technical data in this catalog is presented for 50 Hz and 60 Hz supply, covering synchronous speeds from 500 to 3,600 rpm.

2. Mounting Arrangements
AXR motors are available in a range of standard mounting configurations:

• IM B3 (Code II: IM 1001) — Conventional floor mounting with feet facing downward, providing a horizontal foot-mounted installation.
• IM V1 (Code II: IM 4011) — Vertical solid-shaft configuration with the flange and free shaft end oriented downward (flange-mounted, vertical).
• IM B35 (Code II: IM 2001) — Foot-and-flange horizontal mounting where the flange is part of the end-shield, fitted with one cylindrical shaft extension and feet facing downward.

3. Enclosure and Cooling

• IC411 / IP55 — The motor is fitted with an external shaft-mounted fan that draws ambient air across the cooling surface. The enclosure protects the machine against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, ensuring reliable operation even in dusty or wash-down environments.
• IC416 / IP55 — An independent auxiliary motor drives a dedicated cooling fan, providing the intensified cooling required for low-speed duty, particularly where the motor is operated through a variable-speed drive.

Protection Ratings

• IP55 — Dust-protected (small amounts of dust may enter but never enough to impair operation); protected against water projected from a nozzle in any direction.
• IP66 — Completely dust-tight enclosure; protected against powerful water jets (12.5 mm nozzle) directed from any angle.

Cooling Principle (IC411)

• Frame Surface Cooled — The primary coolant circulates in a closed circuit within the motor, releasing heat through the external frame surface (in addition to the transfer via the stator core and other conductive parts) to the surrounding medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to enhance heat dissipation.
• Self-Circulation — Coolant movement depends on the main motor's speed, generated either by the rotor alone, by a dedicated component mounted directly on the rotor, or by a fan or pump unit mechanically driven by the main motor.

4. Packaging
Standard export packing is seaworthy and suitable for long-distance transport by sea or land, available in plywood or fumigated wooden crates to protect the unit throughout shipment.
